About CAHNSO

The Canadian Association of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology (CAHNSO) is a national professional organization dedicated to advancing excellence in the surgical treatment of head and neck diseases and cancers through education, research, collaboration, innovation, and patient-centred care.

CAHNSO supports healthcare professionals across Canada by promoting lifelong learning, knowledge sharing, and the development of best practices in head and neck surgical oncology. Through educational initiatives, research collaboration, and professional engagement, the association works to improve outcomes for patients and strengthen the specialty nationwide.

Our History

For many years, a Head and Neck Surgery special interest group existed within the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. As the subspecialty continued to evolve, surgeons across Canada recognized the need for a dedicated national organization focused on the unique educational, research, academic, and clinical challenges facing head and neck surgeons.

In 2010, discussions among head and neck surgeons from both academic and community practices led to the development of the Canadian Association of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology (CAHNSO). During the 67th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, members formally reviewed and approved the creation of the association.

Today, CAHNSO serves as a national forum for advancing education, research, collaboration, and excellence in head and neck surgical oncology across Canada.
